Other Acquisitions

The following is a list of materials donated to the Society from June 2005-October 2006:

  • Ali Baum donated a spoon from the Saltz Hotel, Mount Freedom, NJ.
  • Kurt Landsberger donated information about the Landsberger collection of Holocaust related books and materials at the Verona Public Library, Verona, NJ.
  • Elaine Lehman donated Harry and Hannah Heinochowitz photograph collection .
  • Dr. Julian Orleans donated a letter and four books by his father Ilo Orleans, as follows:
    • The First Rainbow
    • Within thy Hand
    • Father Gander (bound by Dr. Aaron Parsonnet)
    • Funday (bound by Dr. Aaron Parsonnet)
  • Ira (Sheldon) Epstein added newspaper ads and articles, photographs and Bits of Hits poster to his existing collection.
  • On the behalf of the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Holly Gauthier donated a vintage nursing cap and cape
  • Morton and Shirley Seltzer donated Weequahic yearbooks and memorabilia
  • Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Gordon donated Israel Bonds memorabilia and plaques related to the Kassin family
  • Joan Soroka Waxman donated one vintage nurse pin from the Newark Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing
  • Howard Kiesel donated a silver bowl commemorating his presidency of Temple Sha’rey Shalom
  • Allen I. Bilder donated slides and photographs taken at Federation events
  • Lillian B. Gilbert donated 2 photographs and a newspaper clipping from the Newark Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing.
  • Arlene Benowitz donated Lake Hiawatha Jewish Center materials.
  • Jerome M. “Bud” Holzman donated two journals and past-president’s certificate for Liberty Young Men Association.
  • David Schechner added a box of records to the existing Oheb Shalom collection.
  • Dr. Noah Chivian donated the Dr. Edward Bressman Collection, which includes a photo album from a luncheon celebrating 60 years of volunteers service at the Newark Beth Israel Dental Center
  • Elaine K. Berman donated photographs, invitations, newspaper articles, School Of Nursing, Newark Beth Israel Hospital.
  • Florence Kasoff donated photographs relating to the School of Nursing at Newark Beth Israel Hospital.
  • Harold Heshy Blinder and Carole Kroll Blinder contributed diplomas, a yearbook, photographs, and programs from Weequahic High School, Hillside Avenue School, Madison Junior High, and Hawthorne Avenue School.
  • Arthur Regan donated photographs and a narrative of the history of Mount Freedom Jewish Center, 1915-1966.
  • Murray J. Sklar donated items related to the Liberty Young Men’s Association including journals, photos, and two 16MM films.
  • Barbara Sender donated an academic paper she wrote on the subject of the development of the Chancellor St. Y, c. 1950s.
  • Kimberly Siegal deposited one copy of her senior honors thesis on the subject of race riots in Newark.
  • Arlene Lebersfeld contributed two mounted pictures from Y "Bits of Hits" productions.
  • Ron Coun of the Jewish Vocational Service donated documents regarding the history of the UJFMW Russian Resettlement project during the 1970s.
  • Leo Yanoff donated a bound copy of his Memoirs.
  • Susan Lubow donated a genealogy book entitled The Novich-Sinoway Family Circle.
  • Arthur Schechner contributed a historical booklet from the Hebrew Sheltering Home.
  • Mathilda Cohen donated NBIH Nurses Alumni materials.
  • Alice Perkins Gould donated Perkins Family memoribilia.
  • Abe Haber donated B’nai B’rith Hillside Lodge scrapbooks and photographs of lodge activities

  • Ms. Edith Mendel submitted assorted family memorabilia from Newark , including invitations, books, photographs
  • Mrs. M. Barry Nydick donated photographs from mezuzah affixing event at Waldor Memorial Library; subjects include M. Barry Nydick and Jerome Waldor.
  • JHSMW Staff recorded the final meeting of JEA and collected a program and agenda from the meeting.
  • JVS/Ron Coun donated Russian Resettlement Job Scene Workshop booklets 1-3, 1974-75
  • Riva Chase/Temple Shalom of Succasunna contributed photographs and 8mm films
  • Dr. Paul Bratter donated two photographs from  Syd’s Restaurant, Newark, NJ
