Where in New Jersey is JHSMW?

The Jewish Historical Society of MetroWest (JHSMW) is housed in the Alex Aidekman Family Jewish Community Campus in Whippany, New Jersey. The areas covered by the Society are the Morris, Essex, Sussex and northern Union Counties of New Jersey.

Who's Minding the Store?

Who's Minding the Store?" is dedicated to the numerous
mom-and-pop businesses that grew up in Newark, expanded to Newark's suburbs and includes Jewish merchants in Morris and Sussex counties.

This exhibition also pays tribute to the founders of New Jersey 's premier supermarkets: Kings, Wakefern Food Corporation/ShopRite and Pathmark Supermarkets. Each started as a mom-and-pop grocery.

Photographs and memorabilia spanning the years 1886 to 1970 were donated by current and former MetroWest residents. Supermarket history and photographs were provided by the Bildner Family/Kings Archives, Wakefern Archives, individual ShopRite owners, Pathmark's founding families and Zal Venet. The exhibition is curated by the Jewish Historical Society MetroWest Outreach Director Linda Forgosh.
